Chilavert: Racism is everywhere, but I advise Vinicius not to fight with those who provoke him

Paraguayan legendary goalkeeper Chilavert was interviewed by Marca and talked about Vinicius' controversial remarks. Earlier, Vinicius said in an interview with the media that if Spain does not solve the problem of racial discrimination, the World Cup should be held in another country, which caused widespread controversy.

I don't think so. These are just moments. Our players are sometimes impulsive. Vinicius is a very good player, but I advise him not to fight with those who try to provoke him.

He should use his speed and strength to prove himself, and now he has Mbappe by his side to shine together. Real Madrid is the best team in the world, and Vinicius needs to understand that top players will always face more resistance. He must deal with the environment on and off the court smartly.

Racism exists all over the world. In Paraguay, people also shout bad words to Argentines, Brazilians, etc. In Argentina, where I played football, people would scold me "Paraguayan, starving ghost, you are robbing our money."

In Spain they shout "South American bumpkins", we've had similar situations in France... In other words, racism is everywhere. What we need to do is to prevent it from spreading to other areas. I hope there will be progress on this issue, but it's a global problem, not just in Spain.

Goalkeepers today are not getting better. I defend my generation. In fact, we passed the baton to them and they learned it from us. For example: when I joined Zaragoza in 1988, my style was to go out of the box, pass the ball, take a penalty or a free kick... But the fans of Zaragoza at the time would shout: "Goalkeeper, lunatic, get back in the goal". That was in 1988. Today's goalkeepers play like this, they have to be good with their feet.

Courtois (Real Madrid), Ter Stegen (Barcelona), Alisson (Liverpool), Oblak (Atletico), the fifth one... I'm not sure. They are all great shot-savers and good with their feet.

Today's coaches prefer goalkeepers who are good with their feet to those who can only save with their hands, but I think it should be the other way around: first save, then think about using your feet. Also, the design of the ball has changed since the 1998 World Cup, and the ball has more irregular movements when flying outside the penalty area. To those who make the rules I would like to say...

By the way, Buffon said not long ago that the goal should be enlarged to increase the number of goals. I don't agree with this. I think the wall for free kicks outside the penalty area should be removed. This is my solution.

Even if he retired, I still support him. For me, he is a player who helped the goalkeeper position grow. He is a legend, a winner, and I salute him here. He is a big man, and I think he is one of the five best goalkeepers in the history of world football.
