Former Arsenal midfielder Emmanuel Thomas arrested for allegedly smuggling £600,000 worth of cannabis

According to foreign media reports, former Arsenal midfielder Emmanuel Thomas has been charged with attempting to smuggle £600,000 worth of cannabis through a British airport.

Emanuel Thomas, who currently plays for Scottish second-tier team Greenockmurton, was reportedly arrested at his home near Glasgow in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

The UK National Crime Agency said that Emmanuel Thomas was detained by police and taken to the northern English city of Carlisle for questioning.

Emanuel Thomas began his career at Arsenal and made five appearances for the Arsenal first team in official matches, including the Champions League against Shakhtar Donetsk in November 2010.

He later played for Ipswich, Bristol City, Queens Park Rangers in England, Aberdeen in Scotland and PTT Rayong in Thailand.

In the drug smuggling case, customs officials found about 60 kilograms of cannabis, worth about 600,000 pounds, in two suitcases on a flight arriving from Bangkok at Stansted Airport near London on September 2, along with two women.

Emanuel Thomas is expected to appear in court in Carlisle on Thursday, charged with importing Class B drugs.
