A 51-year-old Liverpool fan has died after being hit by a car in Italy, according to Italian media reports.

A 51-year-old Irish Liverpool fan has died after being hit by a car on Monday evening, according to Italian newspapers Gazzetta dello Sport and Corriere della Sera.

The fan, whose identity is unknown, was hit by a car while crossing the A4 motorway near Bergamo Airport.

The 51-year-old man arrived in Italy from Manchester and was with two other people when local authorities found his body, but the two people were not at the scene at the time.

According to Corriere della Sera, he was a Liverpool fan from Ireland and had a ticket in his pocket for tonight's Champions League match between Milan and Liverpool at the San Siro stadium.

He reportedly crossed the motorway in an attempt to get to the hotel where he was staying.
