Kane: Practicing shooting is my source of happiness; external doubts will motivate me to become better

At 2:45 am on September 11th, Beijing time, England will face Finland at home in the second round of the UEFA Nations League B. Before the game, Kane accepted an exclusive interview with The Independent and talked about his goals, growth and expectations for the future in the England team.

"It's possible. The goal is here. How much is left? 34 goals? I think I'm in a very good state. These are all goals worth striving for. Some people may think that this goal is unrealistic, but I would rather pursue something unrealistic than give up my goals completely."

"In fact, there may be people questioning my entire career, starting with being expelled from Arsenal at the age of 8. That may have given me some desire to prove others wrong at that age."

"Even when I first came to Tottenham, I was almost expelled... I've never been the kind of person that everyone thinks will continue to do what they do."

"I think the desire for progress "That's what made me progress, I've been out on loan, I've had a couple of good loan spells, a couple of not-so-good loan spells, but I still had to fight for my place and to prove I could get to the level I wanted to in the Premier League and with England at the time, and there were people who doubted me throughout my career."

"That motivated me to get better, that helped me stay consistent. Tom Brady was a big inspiration for me, he was the epitome of that and he went on to become the greatest player the game has ever seen."

"But when he was 42, 43 years old, he still had to prove people wrong and prove to himself that he was good enough. I think I'll keep that attitude until I stop playing." "I think deep down inside that attitude motivated me to do better in training, to do better at the end of a training session, things that I probably don't need to do anymore but I want to do and to show that I can improve." "I've always been a goal scorer, even when I was six or seven years old, and I think part of it was that I had an instinct to score, I knew where the ball was going to go and what areas it was going to land in, but I had to work really hard to score, especially in the early days at Spurs when I wasn't the player I am now." "I also met Bradley Allen today and he's been a big part of the change for me, I trained a lot with him when I was at U15. ’”

“Even now, I still do shooting drills and now you get more data and you can see which balls are being scored from where in the box so you can start to change your movements a little bit in that regard and I really enjoy being out there on the pitch and doing my shots, it’s a lot of fun for me.”

“Sometimes we do group shooting drills but I might go off on my own and set up a more specific scenario and then other players will come over and join me in the drill.”

“Maybe it’s just the way football is going – players being able to get into different areas – maybe that will change and the pure nine will come back and then a manager like Guardiola will play a pure nine and everyone will play like that again.”

“He’s got a player like that right now in Haaland and it’s working! Who knows, that’s the way football evolves but I think there’s no doubt that watching some of the best wingers in the world has inspired them to become that type of player.”

“I was thinking ‘why can’t I score? ' But in the game, I felt good. I felt that our whole team was not very good together. ”

"To be honest, a lot of the lads didn't perform as well as they did in other games. At 31 years old, I am in good shape both mentally and physically. Some of the players before me, such as Ronaldo, have proved to me that we can maintain this level for a long time. ”

"I remember the ball was out of bounds for about four or five minutes, and I was thinking, someone has committed a foul! Before the training camp started, everyone was talking about it because I played well for Tottenham, I got a warm welcome, and a few minutes after I came on, I scored a goal... I don't think I could have dreamed of a better result than this. ”
