Madrid Mayor: Vinicius should correct his remarks, Spain is not a racist society

Previously, Vinicius had said that if racial discrimination is not resolved, the World Cup should be moved and not held in Spain. In response, Madrid Mayor Almeida criticized it.

In an interview with the media, Almeida said: "I hope Vinicius can correct these remarks immediately. We all know that racism does exist in society and we must work hard to eliminate it, but it is unfair to say that Spain and Madrid are racist societies."

Almeida criticized Vinicius's remarks, believing that these remarks "endangered the 2030 World Cup in Madrid and Spain." Although he admitted that Vinicius is an "excellent football player", he also said that this does not mean that Vinicius will not "make mistakes", and in this case, he did "make mistakes" and needs to "apologize."

Almeida added: "Vinicius has the support of the entire Spanish society to fight racism, but we cannot support him calling the entire Spanish and Madrid society racist because I cannot accept this." He described Madrid as "one of the most open, inclusive and diverse cities in the world."

Almeida stressed: "One of the characteristics of Madrid is that we don't ask anyone where they are from or where they are going. No one will be excluded here." He also explained that although Vinicius encountered a "regrettable incident", it does not mean that he can label almost the entire Spanish society as racist, nor does it mean that the 2030 World Cup should not be held here.
