Manchester City youngster O'Reilly: I didn't expect to get a chance in pre-season, but I was very focused

After playing for England U20 against Turkey U20, Nico O'Reilly was interviewed by the England team and talked about his feelings about being selected for Manchester City's first team this season.

"I think I've only realised it now but it took a while, I went to America with the team and didn't expect any game time or anything like that.

"Then Guardiola gave me a chance in the first game and I did well, he trusted me again and I had a few good games and performed well.

"I don't think there was any pressure, to be honest I didn't feel any pressure from the media or anything, I just focused and focused on the game, I didn't really worry about what was happening off the pitch and just continued to be myself.

"For the best coach in the world like Guardiola to trust you and let you go out there and play, it really means a lot. I've been a City fan since I was a child, I've been a City fan all my life, since I was a baby!"

"My family is a bit 'split' - some people are Manchester United fans, but my mum and sister are big City fans, so it's all good."

"It was my debut but I've played thousands of games to get to this point and this was on a bigger stage and my family have helped me so it was special for me to be here and they were so proud."

"It was crazy, there were 78,000 people at Wembley that day and making my debut in a Manchester derby at Wembley was a lot of pressure but I think I perform better under pressure and I just love pressure and I'm very grateful to have been given the opportunity and I'm taking it all in."

"I've played in front of 50,000 or 60,000 people on the pre-season tour of the United States but the biggest crowd I've played in before this was probably 15,000 and it's a massive jump."

"New competitions give the team and me more motivation to win and I always want to do my best for England and there's something about this that gives you an edge."

"I played at Edgeley Park last season and it's a great stadium so I'm really looking forward to it."
