Swedish coach Eriksson died of illness at the age of 76. Real Madrid Club officially issued a statement of condolences.
Real Madrid Club, its president and board of directors deeply regret the death of Sven-Goran Eriksson, a famous coach in the history of world football.
Real Madrid would like to express its sincere condolences and sympathy to Eriksson's family, friends, club and all those who loved him.
Eriksson coached for more than four decades around the world, commanding many club teams and national teams. With Gothenburg, he won 1 UEFA Cup, 1 Swedish League and 2 Swedish Cups. With Lazio, he won 1 European Cup Winners' Cup, 1 European Super Cup, 1 Italian League, 2 Italian Cups and 2 Italian Super Cups. With Benfica, he won 3 Portuguese League titles, 1 Portuguese Cup and 1 Portuguese Super Cup. With Roma, he won 1 Italian Cup. With Sampdoria, he won 1 Coppa Italia.
Eriksson coached England at the 2002 World Cup in Korea and Japan and the 2006 World Cup in Germany, as well as at the 2004 European Championship in Portugal. He also coached the Ivory Coast national team at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, and has coached the Mexican and Philippine national teams.
Eriksson died at the age of 76. May he rest in peace.
